Bigotry

During the Civil War there were people supporting slavery and secession who did not own slaves and who made no money from slavery or secession.  There are many people in the South today who still support bigotry and secession who get nothing from those actions. Is it ego, embarrassment or fear that drives these irrational commitments?  

The southerners blame the Blacks for the Civil War, which destroyed southern culture. Now that is stupid because the southerners started the war to keep the Blacks enslaved, and they destroyed their own culture. Slavery and bigotry are two of the most hideous threats to democracy and freedom for all people and the United States itself.
